Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas from the SINNER’S PULPIt!

We pause from our writing of “law and grace”, to touch on the true meaning of Christmas – Christ.

Like most, I attended gatherings over this Christmas season and enjoyed the blessings of family, friends, food and fellowship. It can be a joyous time for most, but we must remember those, who for whatever reason, are not experiencing joy and peace. Pray for them and physically help when you feel moved.

I’m sad to say that I didn’t hear much of Jesus Christ in my travels. Most, when asked, what Christmas means to them responded with: “It’s a time with family and friends”, “it’s a time to remember those who aren’t with us anymore”, “I like the lights and sites”, “food and fellowship”, “getting gifts”, “means nothing to me, I’m glad the profiteering is over”, “time off from work”, just to name a few. Only a small slice of society mentioned Christ. (Local news – man on the street type interviews) Certainly those that answered could know Christ – don’t get me judging!

We pray that all, at the very least, know or seek to know Christ, and the hope that comes with Him.

The wars, hate, pandemics, earthquakes, floods, murders, absence of God and tragedies of all kinds, are a reminder that we live in a fallen world. This mayhem continues because mankind chose poorly, and continues to choose poorly. (sin) It’s happening just as described in the Holy Scriptures. You don’t have to watch the news, just read scripture. The current news mirrors prophecy.

Can you imagine a world without war, greed, pride, hate, and murder, where everyone loves his neighbor?

I can’t either.

But God does… God the eternal Son, entered humanity in the person of Jesus Christ – God in the flesh, to redeem His children from the hell we see played out right before our eyes.

To be here in the mess with us. (Romans 5:8)

The birth of Christ and the cure for death, was known before time and promised at the moment Adam sinned. 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (Genesis 3:15)

Friends, this is the promised Christ (Messiah) from the beginning – The solution.

Do you think the almighty, all knowing, all powerful, ever present God of the universe, that created us to be His children, would allow satan, a created being, (Lucifer) to win this battle? Not a chance.

6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

Friends, this is the promised Christ, 700 years before His incarnation – The Who.

14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14) “Immanuel” means God with us – The how.

14 And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

Friends, this is the fulfillment of the promised incarnation, God with us.

15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. (Colossians 1:15)

Friends, THE Son of God was the Eternal Son in heaven, and became the only begotten with the taking on of human flesh. Begotten means uniquely born. Never had God entered humanity this way.

“THE” Son of God, became human so we could become “a” son. (John 1:12)

We must understand that Christ is God in the flesh, (Incarceration, true meaning of Christmas) before we can understand the rest of the story. That His finished work on the cross,(crucifixion, resurrection) cleanses us and brings us into right relationship with God that was lost by sin.

When we trust (faith) what God has promised, we are giving God permission to share His life with us again, as He did with Adam at the beginning. The end of the story is that by faith in “His” way back, we can become what God wanted us to be before Adam’s sin – God “in”us. It’s our only hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27)

Friends. This is the true meaning of Christmas. God with us, that becomes God in us. (The rest of the story in the book of Acts and Paul’s epistles)

We celebrate this today and everyday!

We cannot truly celebrate Christmas or any of the promises of salvation, redemption, reconciliation, sanctification, glorification without correctly believing who Christ is.

Many religious institutions have compromised and conflated who Christ is. This has and will lead many over the cliff of religion and self righteousness.

Jesus Christ is God in human flesh, come to save sinners.

17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. (John 3:17)

Salvation is found at the sinner’s pulpit. It’s where “you” speak, calling on the name of the Lord to be saved.

It could be in a car, bar or a cardboard box under a bridge.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

(Romans10:13)

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Merry Christmas!
