In the spirit of Christmas, (Christ’s incarnation- not Santa) let’s pause from the scholarly, high criticism of scripture and contemplate the most beautiful words ever spoken; the greatest gift one can receive:
“And the Word became flesh”
John 1:1,12-14 KJV
[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: [13] Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. [14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (emphasis mine)
God, the eternal Son, entered into the realm of humanity, lived our life and died our death, raised again to life, tearing down the wall of separation – The greatest rescue known to man.
The Son of God, became the son of man, so the sons of men, could become sons of God. No greater love.
Two PhD candidates sat in the park conversing about their previous day’s studies. Their conversation was that of God, religion and the origin of the universe. From their many years of following and studying some of the greatest minds ever to broach the subject, they concurred that there must be an intelligent mind behind creation, but one could never know that being personally.
Holy Joe, a drunken homeless guy, that lived under the freeway was standing nearby, waiting to retrieve the crumbs from their lunch or possibly the butt of their smoke. He overheard their conversation and joined in.
“We humans are the highest intelligence on the planet, right?
The professors concurred.
“I caught a 10 pound catfish the other day and it knew absolutely nothing of me, this highest form of intelligence, right”?
The professors concurred.
“How on earth would the catfish be able to know anything of me?”
Well, “I don’t know”, said the professors after serious contemplation.
“Simple, I would have to become a catfish” Holy Joe said, with a smile.
[27] But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; (1 Corinthians 1:27)
