As I talk to people- saved and unsaved- their concern is always sin. Unsaved people seem to think their sin is too heinous to be forgiven. Saved people think every sin keeps them in a constant turmoil with God: sin–> repent, sin–> repent, like a dog chasing his ear.
Give God some credit! God took away any and all of your sin in the finished work of Christ!
[26] For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. (Hebrews 9:26)
[14] For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. (Hebrews 10:14)
This is great news: you do not lose fellowship with God when you sin! When you come to Christ by faith, Father, Son and Holy Spirit take up residence in you. You become united with God. You are a new creature. The Holy spirit baptizes (immerses, no water) you into Christ. (1 Cor 12:13)
God does this, you don’t do this.
GIVE GOD SOME CREDIT! You are in the body of Christ, never to be separated again. The wages of sin are death, not temporary separation until we say we’re sorry. Do I die now when I sin? No. Jesus died so I wouldn’t have to. God sees me in Christ’s death burial and resurrection. God won’t kill us anymore, that’s the whole message! We’re as alive as Christ!
If it’s not that good, it’s just another religion. (i.e. something man does or adds)
By God’s grace, you now have peace with God, reconciled, redeemed, justified, made holy (sanctified) and are continually made holy, seated with him in heaven. He doesn’t leave us or break fellowship with us, even if we feel like we do. We are not expressing Him when we sin and we grieve Him when we sin, but He’s right there with us. It is a working definition of fellowship: walking with, one with, communion with.
People like to use the human analogy of a father and son on earth. While God came to this earth in his son Jesus, God is so much more than a human on Earth. We can give him more credit than that! When He promises to never leave, He doesn’t. He’s not a man that He would lie.
When we sin, it is not counted against us.
[8] Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. (Romans 4:8)
Are there consequences? Absolutely, earthly consequences. Is God grieved? Yeah! Is God happy with us? No! (See “Sin is Gone” for more depth on this topic.)
But, He doesn’t stop walking with us or talking with us. If we sin, we take Him with us and the Holy Spirit helps us see it and turn away. He teaches us through renewing our minds. Give God some credit! Something changed at the cross!
When we feel bad about sin that’s the Holy Spirit living in us which guides and teaches us. It is likely out human desire to want to take another action to “fix” the sin, but there’s nothing left to do. Saved, born again, blood bought children now have the mind of Christ with a new heart. This transformation takes place at salvation. Give God the credit! We are in Him and He is in us.
[21] That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. John 17:21
Like a fly in a plane, we go where the plane goes.
How can we lose anything if we are in Him?
Can we walk away? No!! why? Because HE now is holding us! He is faithful when we aren’t.
You see, His promises are unchanging. He swore by Himself! (Hebrews 6:13)
If He called you into fellowship (1 corinthians 1:9), and you are a child of light (1 Thessalonians 5:4-5), you cant loose it!!!
Give God the Credit! He’s doing the holding!!
Possessing Christians can lose their joy, their peace, their kidney, an arm or their sanity, but they will never lose fellowship with God since believing in the finished work of Christ.
Does He discipline us? Yep. He loves us and wants better for us. Discipline not punishment.
He doesn’t turn His back on us. He turned His back on His Son at the cross so He wouldn’t have to turn His back on you!
Give God some credit!
He’s faithful when we’re not.
Should we “walk” in Him. Duh, we are always walking in Him if we are born anew. We can’t NOT walk “in” Him if we are saved.
Do we always “choose” the correct way to walk? No. We all stumble in many ways (James 3:12). He’s right there to correct us…and…He…will!
Oh! What about my relationship? Do I lose it or damage it?
(Relationship defined: connection, family ties)
Not a chance! We are His child.
Give God some credit!
